Wood Fest is our annual Indoor Mountain Bike Festival! We just want to ride bikes, hang out with bike friends, talk about bikes, buy cheap bike stuff, try cool new bikes, learn more bike skills, use our skills to win prizes in silly contests, laugh at our friends falling over in those contests, maybe have a beer after we’re done riding.
Throughout the day you can partake in skills clinics, check out gear from manufacturers and local bike shops, bike challenges, bicycle garage sale/swap meet, food, and drink! Some activities require pre-registration, so check out the rest of this event page. Just hanging out is free. Proceeds from every beer sold go to Trail Pittsburgh to help keep our trails open. Public tabling for the swap meet is free, but requires registration (due to space limitations), so please don’t register and then not show up! That’s just not cool.
New for 2023!
MTBiathlon is inspired by the Olympic Biathlon which “combines the power and aggression of cross-country skiing with the precision and calm of marksmanship.” We have translated this to our favorite sports of mountain biking and archery. This inaugural course is set up to balance the technicality and anaerobic intensity of our indoor bike courses with the steadiness and composure required for archery target shooting.
Rules
To keep the playing field level, all participants must use a mountain bike with a wheel size of 27.5” or larger and knobby tires. Bows and arrows will be provided by The Wheel Mill and do not exceed 25lb draw weight. Arrows are the foam-tipped sort used for archery tag.
Course
Contestants will complete 6 circuits of riding(with their bow-shouldered) and shooting, with average lap times of around 1 min 20 seconds followed by three shots on a target. Missed shot time penalties are assessed by the participant having to retrieve another arrow from an official station immediately following the missed shot. The riding portion will travel through the pump track, 3″ jump line, and MTB Trail sections of the park. The shooting portion will be at approximately 10-15 yards distance at a 24″ diameter target.
Entry
For our inaugural race we are running four heats of 4 riders each (two quarter-finals, one semi-final, and one final). Entry fee is $50 which includes your park pass for the day. Cash prizes will be paid out to the top 4 contestants. All participants must be 18 & over.

Want a good deal or want to get rid of stuff riding gear from your garage? Bring it out and get someone else to enjoy it or come drink a beer and look at some bike parts. Public tabling for the swap meet is free, but requires registration (due to space limitations), so please don’t register and then not show up! That’s just not cool.
