The 8 years and older camp children are divided into three groups based on their skill and experience level:

  • Beginner: children who already know how to ride a bike on their own but could benefit from some pro tips for gaining confidence riding around the neighborhood. Campers will learn general bike skills, bike safety, and park etiquette, as well as general cycling, mountain bike and BMX vocabulary. Once campers have mastered the basics, our instructors will move them onto learning intermediate skills.
  • Intermediate: children who have been to camp before, practiced the skills they were taught, and have mastered the skills from previous camps. They want to learn more about Mountain Biking or BMX and to continue where our previous camp left off. We will start with a refresher of the basics and continue on through intermediate skills until they are mastered. From there, we will move onto advanced skills.
  • Advanced: children that loves to ride and never stop! It’s an intermediate to expert level camp where riders will have the freedom to grow the skills of their choice. Instructors will help campers set goals for themselves and show them the proper steps to achieve those goals.
Camp Requirements
  • Be able to ride a bike without training wheels on their own
  • Have a tune up on your camper’s bicycle. You can get your bike tuned up through our shop for an additional fee or any other bike shop.
  • You can select the Camp and Tune Up option through us or bring us a receipt of your tune up from your bike shop. If you do not have a bicycle, you can rent it through us.
  • Have a properly fitted helmet or you can rent a helmet from us
Bike Tune Up (Mandatory)
  • All campers must have a tune up completed on their bike within 3 months of camp.
  • After years of experience running Summer Bike Camp, we have learned that the best way to optimize your child’s experience is to not get bogged down with bike mechanical problems at the start of camp.
  • You can go to your local bike shop, or we offer a Quick Tune with our camp as part of a discounted package.
  • Think of this as a professional safety check on your kid’s bike before they head out on a long ride.
  • We’ll check your bike to make sure everything is securely tightened, adjusted, and check your chain, gears, tires, brakes & steering system.
  • If you need any parts and installation you will be notified, and there may be additional costs.
  • After registering for your camp and tune up, please email eli@thewheelmill.com to schedule a day to bring your child’s bike in at least three weeks before the start of their camp.
