Camp FAQs

What are your COVID-19 precautions?
  • We are taking measures according to CDC and local guidelines and including recommendations from international bicycle associations to keep your children and our staff safe during this time
How old does my child have to be to participate in a camp?
  • 5-17 year old. If your child is 5-7, they must ride in our 7 & Under Camp.
What level is my child?
  • We offer 7 and Under and 8 & Over camp (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced).
  • All campers 5-7 years old must take our 7 and Under Camp due to insurance reasons.
  • We’ve also found that class can be at their pace and it works better for riders 5-7 years old.
  • Our Camp Instructors will place your child in the appropriate group based on their skill level following an assessment on the first morning of camp.
  • For safety reasons we cannot place kids in specific groups with their friends or siblings if their riding skill levels are different.
What should my child wear?
  • For clothing, you want something they can move in but nothing too baggy or loose.
  • For shoes, a nice flat soled sneaker. No running shoes, open toe shoes or flip flops. Good shoe brands are Vans, FiveTen or Etnies.
Does my child need to own a bike to come to ride at the camp?
  • Most kids bring their own bike that they are comfortable with, but we have bikes available for rent. However we have a limited supply.
  • We also have bikes available for purchase in our bike shop.
  • To reserve a rental or purchase a bike in advance contact info@thewheelmill.com.
What kind of bike does my child need?
  • For beginner and intermediate riders, any bike works.
  • As we get to advanced levels, the riders bike should be properly fitted and a rider should not have a coaster brake wheel or be a road bike.
What is your camper to instructor ratio?
  • 12 to 1 or better.
What if my child wants to ride in the park before or after their camp class?
  • We do offer Late Pick Up! For campers 8 and over, stay after camp with supervision and practice your skills.
